As a woman or man over 50 sometimes it can be difficult to think sexy or romantic. Stress and everyday activities of life can sometimes take its toll on your body and mind. Keeping your body, mind and skin healthy can wreak havoc on your lifestyle.
There are many things to consider when you turn 50. It would be great to start implementing them before then, however if you did not then 50 seems to be the turning point in most people’s life when they begin to seriously consider changing their lifestyle to something healthier.
Here are some of the things I have been doing to keep healthy and achieve a younger appearance.
I have tried over the years to incorporate lots of fruits and vegetables in my diet. I like to eat lettuce, carrot, string beans, avocado, broccoli, callalo, cabbage and other vegetables that are easily available. I love fruits and often times I will make a fruit salad which consists of melon, apple, banana, peach, mango and oranges. These are some of the fruits I try to consume on a regular basis. I like the Mediterreanean diet as it allows you to eat lot of fruits and vegetables. It promotes good health and prevents disease.
As you get older it is important to consume antioxidants and Omega 3 fatty acids which gives the body the essential nutrients it needs to function properly and keep healthy. Essential fatty acids are also very important for smooth, wrinkle-free skin.
I love fish and eat fish at least twice weekly. I also take my fish oil supplement to make sure I am consuming the adequate daily requirements. When taking fish oil supplement I make sure to research the brand I purchase because I hate those brands which causes you to belch that awful fishy aftertaste. A brand that is pure and has high anti-inflammatory properties will be easy to digest and will help keep away those arthritis joint pain and will also help smooth out those wrinkles.
Exercise is very essential to achieving sooth skin and healthy bones. Regular exercise will keep your heart and muscles working like a 20-30 year old person. Walking or riding your bike, walking on the treadmill, or working out at the gym doing pilates or yoga will help tone your body and reduce stress. There are many different type of exercises you can chose. Do things you enjoy and will want to keep doing each day.
Female and Male Anti Aging Problems
Male Sexual Health
Sexual health refers to sexual function, reproduction, desire, ability and enjoyment. It involves relevance to and effect on your overall life and health status. Some of the sexual health issues that affects men 50 and over are:
– Impotence (Erectile dsyfunction)
– The Prostate
– Premature Ejaculation
– Male Infertility
– Loss of Libido
Impotence or Erectile Dsyfunction is one of the more common health issues most men experience as they age.
To remain erect your penis must become engorged with blood. Some conditions make this difficult however. Vascular (blood vessel) disease, e.g. Atherosclerosis (where fatty deposits narrow the arteries) may restrict blood flow to the penis, high fat/sugar diets, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and smoking are all common causes.
This condition affects approximately 30 million men in the United States alone. As well as Atherosclerosis, other major causative groups include:
Nerve damage (neuropathy)
Medications — such as for high blood pressure, depression and heart disease
Regardless of the medical causes of erectile difficulty, there is also always a psychological effect potentially resulting in anxiety, feelings of inadequacy, depression and lowered self-esteem. All these themselves contribute to male impotence, beginning a vicious circle of problematic function.
The prostate is a walnut-sized gland that sits below the bladder in men that produces fluid that
mixes with sperm to form semen.
Infertility is the inability to achieve a normal conception. Couples that cannot conceive after three years are very unlikely to ever succeed unless they seek medical assistance. Male infertility is statistically responsible for around 50% of all couples that have difficulty with conception.
Male infertility has a wide variety of causes:
Problems with the testicles
Problems with the flow of sperm
Abnormal sperm function
Inherited or chromosomal disorders
Exposure to toxins
Medications and drugs
General illnesses, including kidney disease, cirrhosis and malnutrition
Loss of Libido/Sexual Desire
Lack of sex drive is more and more common in men. Causes can be either physical or psychological.
Physical causes can include alcohol or drug abuse, anaemia, hyperprolactinaemia (where too much prolactin hormone is produced by the pituitary gland), obesity, some prescription drugs, low testosterone levels or any general systemic disease.
Psychological causes can include depression, stress, overwork or relationship problems.
Female Anti Aging Issues include:
– Painful Intercourse
– Cervical Cancer
– Female Infertility
This is the most dramatic organic change that you will undergo as you age.
Menopause occurs between the ages of 45 – 55, although it is possible to begin earlier. A significant reduction in the production of estrogen brings about this change to signify the end of ovulation, menstruation and fertility.
Some women experience only slight changes in sexual function, while others have severe symptoms and discomfort from dryness and pain with intercourse, or genital soreness for a few days after sexual activity.
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a collection of physical, psychological and emotional symptoms that many women experience during the one or two weeks before a menstrual period. Also if you smoke, drink and lead a life full of stress, do not exercise and do not eat healthy you will experience PMS symptoms
Painful sexual intercourse (dyspareunia)
Dyspareunia is the experience of pain during or after sexual intercourse. It can involve the vagina, clitoris or labia. You may experience pain at the entrance of the vagina, deeper pain during penetration, or tightening of the vaginal muscles.
Common causes of such pain include:
Side effects of drugs such as antihistamines
Inflammation of the area surrounding the vaginal opening
Urinary tract infections.
The cervix is located at the top of the vagina. It is the entrance to the uterus.
Cervical cancer begins with abnormal changes in cells in the outer layer of the cervix that continue to multiply.
Virtually all cervical cancer is caused by infection with HPV human papilloma virus.
Cervical cancer does not display any symptoms in its early stages, which is why it is recommended to have regular smear / pap tests every few years.
Most couples are able to achieve a pregnancy within one year if they have intercourse frequently, but between 10% and 15% of couples will continue to have difficulty conceiving after one year of trying. Infertility is when pregnancy is slow or unable to occur.
Infertility can be caused by health problems. In approximately 20% of couples more than one cause of infertility is found.
Normal aging reduces a woman’s ability to become pregnant. Aging begins to reduce fertility as early as age 30, and pregnancy rates are very low after age 44.
Taking care of your health is important at any age, however as you get older it is even more important to ensure you do all the things that are essential for your overall good health.
Life does not have to come to a halt when you get to 50 and beyond. If you eat right, exercise, take good quality supplements and take care of your skin you will be able to look and feel at least 10 years younger than your age.
